The UAB ranks top university in Spain in energy and climate change
The UAB ranks 110th in the world and 3rd in Spain in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026. In the field of energy and climate change, the UAB is a national leader, alongside the University of Granada. The ranking compares the universities' efforts towards sustainability and their environmentally friendly management policies.
The latest edition of the GreenMetric World University Rankings, produced by the University of Indonesia (UI), places the UAB in position 110th worldwide. Among Spanish universities, it ranks first in energy and climate change management—tied with the University of Granada—and third overall, behind the Complutense University and the University of Granada. Compared to the 2025 edition, when it held the 137th spot globally and also ranked third in Spain, this represents an improvement of 27 places in the global rankings. Furthermore, the overall score rose from 8,412.5 points in 2025 to 8,575 points in 2026, reflecting a positive trend in the University's results.
It is worth noting that this year the ranking has incorporated a new area of assessment related to governance and, at the same time, raised the requirements for achieving the maximum score on several indicators, thereby increasing the rigour of the evaluation.
Globally, the ranking is led by Wageningen University & Research (the Netherlands), the Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld of the Trier University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and the University of São Paulo (Brazil).
