The UAB Governing Team rejects the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla and demands the immediate release of crew members
The UAB Governing Team denounces the illegal interception since last night against the vessels that made up the Global Sumud Flotilla, perpetrated by the Israeli army in international waters. The governing team also demands the immediate release of the illegally detained persons and the reestablishment of the free circulation of all vessels, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Humanitarian aid should not be hindered, nor should those who try to deliver it to a civilian population suffering from a situation classified as genocide by the UN be criminalised. This attack represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and, therefore, we demand that the governments of the countries that have citizens on board the Flotilla, and especially the government of the Spanish State, intervene diplomatically to guarantee respect for international law and the freedom of the detainees.
When the expedition set sail from the port of Barcelona last month, the governing team already expressed its support for this humanitarian mission. A peaceful and solidarity initiative promoted by an international coalition of humanitarian movements stemming from the civil society, with the aim of breaking the Israeli blockade, opening a humanitarian corridor, and meeting the urgent needs of the Palestinian population with more than 300 tonnes of humanitarian aid material.
The governing team would like to encourage the university community to participate in the different protest actions that are being organised throughout the country to condemn this unjustifiable attack and to demand that the international community act firmly to end both the blockade and the genocide of the Palestinian people.
