On Wednesday 19 April, at 1.30 pm, the SiS Space at the Main Road becomes a showcase for music and dance to mark the International Dance Day. The UAB Dance Classroom and the duo of professional dancers and choreographers, Clémentine & Lisard, offer three choreographies to celebrate this date. In addition, coinciding with the celebration of the 13th Healthy and Sustainable Week, the Culture in Viu Unit and the UAB Dance Classroom are organising a free contemporary dance class on 17 April at 1.30pm, open to anyone interested in trying out this artistic discipline, regardless of their level.

29 April is an important date in the history of dance. On the occasion of the birth of the dancer and choreographer Jean-Georges Noverre, who is considered the creator of modern ballet, UNESCO proclaimed this day as International Dance Day. The UAB, which has moved the celebration of this date to 19 April, seeks to pay tribute to dance as a universal and diverse art discipline, and a form of expression that knows no ethical, political or cultural barriers.

The Dance Classroom of the UAB offers a choreographic street performance at the SiS Space in the Main Road on Wednesday 19 April, between 1.30 pm and 3pm. The members of the intermediate level Contemporary Dance Workshop, directed by Laia Santanach, will show their choreography Rise, resulting from the work done throughout this second semester. On the other hand, the Initiation Workshop of Contemporary Dance, directed by Mario G. Saez, will also present their choreography.

In addition, the duo of professional choreographers, Clémentine & Lisard, will participate in this day, with their dance piece Scotoma. Scotoma is an invitation to reflect on everything that captures and directs our attention. Clémentine Telesfort and Lisard Tranis focus the theme of their choreography on the scotoma, the area of the visual field in which visual acuity is partially diminished or totally degenerated, like the dead centre of a car's rearview mirrors. Under the pretext that looking does not always mean seeing, the two dancers represent two people who are immersed in their own world and who will help each other to discover other perspectives that will allow them to broaden their gaze and understand what they did not know.

Clémentine Télesfort (France) and Lisard Tranis (Spain) are two dance artists who, since 2017, have been working together in different international companies, such as Guy Nader and Maria Campos, or Lali Ayguadé, among others. Both artists have jointly cultivated an artistic language that unites them, as it fuses dance and theatre, and has allowed them to explore various formats such as video dance or pieces that can be performed both in the street or as a theatre.

International Dance Day coincides with the celebration of the 13th Healthy and Sustainable Week, five days full of activities that have our health and greater sustainability in our environment in mind. For this reason, the Culture in Viu Unit and the UAB Dance Classroom are organising a contemporary dance class on Monday 17 April at 1.30pm in Rehearsal Room 2 of the Agora Building to introduce this artistic discipline to any member of the university community. The class is free and there is no level restriction. If you are interested in attending, please register using this form.
