The UAB brings together leading experts in space communications in Barcelona
On 22 and 23 September, Casa Convalescència UAB will host the Satellite Network of Experts V Seasonal School, with the participation of leading experts in satellite and space communications such as Holly Ridings from NASA and Oana Graur from ESA.

The Quantum Communication and Secure Information (Q-CSI) research group, from the Department of Telecommunications and Systems Engineering at the UAB, organises the EURASIP Satellite Network of Experts V Seasonal School, a project of the European Space Agency (ESA) within the framework of the Connectivity and Secure Communications (CSC) department, co-organised by the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC).
The school is aimed at early-stage researchers and industry professionals, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers interested in exploring the latest advances in satellite and space communications. It will take place on 22 and 23 Septemeber at Casa Convalescència UAB and is organised in conjunction with the International Conference on Satellite Systems Communications (ICSSC 2025) of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), which will take place from 23 to 25 September.
The first day of the 2025 edition will open with a presentation by Holly Ridings, former NASA Flight Director and current Director of Exploration Operations for the Artemis Moon to Mars programme. ESA safety systems engineer Oana-Alexandra Graur will explain her work on standardising space safety to support the development of interoperable and federated missions between agencies and platforms. Professor Gunes Karabulut-Kurt of the Polytechnic University of Montreal will explore the dual challenge of wireless communications and energy transfer to the lunar surface, combining strategic vision with cutting-edge technical insight. Professor Zhu Han from the University of Houston, an expert in next-generation wireless systems, will introduce the emerging paradigm of generative semantic communication, and Professor Eva Lagunas from the University of Luxembourg will conclude the day with a forward-looking lecture on non-terrestrial networks in the 6G era.
Throughout the second day, there will be a joint session with the ICSSC 2025 international conference, where participants will join leading experts from the space industry and academia.
