The UAB among the world's top 100 universities in twelve disciplines according to the QS by Subject rankings
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona ranks among the top 50 in the world in veterinary science and linguistics, and is among the top 200 universities in 32 of the 49 scientific disciplines analysed by QS.
The 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject places the UAB among the top 100 universities in the world in twelve disciplines, five more than in the previous edition: veterinary science (in position 25), linguistics (position 49), economy and econometrics (65), modern languages (67), sociology (67), medicine (81), environmental sciences (92), education and training (93), and anthropology, archaeology, geography, and social policy and administration (all four in a range between positions 51 and 100).
In addition, the UAB is among the top 200 universities in the world in 32 of the 49 scientific disciplines ranked by QS. It should be noted that the ranking reflects the absolute position of the University in each of the disciplines, highly conditioned by the number of universities analysed by QS in each discipline.
As for the classification by major areas of knowledge, the UAB ranks within the top 150 universities in 4 of the 5 QS areas: 112th in arts and humanities, 134th in natural sciences, 133th in social sciences, and 100th in life sciences and medicine. The UAB ranks 260th in engineering and technology.
Each year since 2011 QS has published the QS World University Rankings broken down by scientific disciplines. The ranking lists the best universities in the world in 5 major areas of knowledge and 55 scientific disciplines with the aim of helping prospective students identify the leading universities in a given field of study. In this edition, 6,277 universities from 166 countries were analysed.
The ranking is based on data collected in the latest QS ranking, in which the UAB ranked 172 worldwide.
