The Third Half. Research staff meeting and support groups

The third half is a moral tradition  in rugby, where at the end of the match, the opponents meet to share some time together to have a drink and a snack, as an excuse to fraternize and ease any resentment that may have arisen during the match. The third half is as or more important than the game itself, because it is where the players learn to control their feelings, respect their opponents and teammates and manage the emotions that the game has produced,  establishing cordial and friendly relations as a result of their shared experience of the sport. Despite being a rugby tradition the third half is spreading to other team sports.

To the same end, the Healthy and Sustainable Campus of the UAB, in collaboration with the Doctoral School, the Psychology Service, the Research Network in Mental Health and the Researcher Mental Health Observatory ReMO, is adapting this practice to academia. By hosting monthly meetings for research teams and their doctoral students we aim to create a "third hour" to increase social cohesiveness by providing a space and time for peers to talk, reflect, and connect. Activities will also increase motivation and good feelings, thereby facilitating the socio-emotional well-being of the research community.

The UAB third half  will initially consist of gamified activities, that will be used to facilitate motivation, communication, and dialogue, with a specialist from the Coaching and Academic Support Unit (UCAA DOCS, Psychology Service) guiding the process. After that, the Social Science Bar-Cafeteria will host a more informal get-together with drinks and snacks. The aim is to make it easier for young researchers at the UAB to network and meet outside the labs and offices. It is also open to research personnel of all ages and research organizations.

The activity is free, but registration is required and can be done by filling in the form https://forms.gle/P5FwKybMSdToeNY17. Book now to ensure a place because there is a limit of 30 people for the event, which will be carried out in line with Covid19 health guidelines. If there is enough demand, more groups will open on other Fridays during the month.
