The four universities making up the Barcelona Knowledge Alliance (UAB, UB, UPC and UPF) collaborate with Grup Enciclopèdia in the organisation of the second edition of Veu Alta per a Joves, a read aloud competition which aims to foster reading in Catalan. From 12 February to 15 March, teenagers and young adults aged 16 to 25 years old can send in a video in which they read a text in Catalan prose or poetry aloud.

Certamen Veu Alta

To participate in this first virtual phase of the contest, a video must be posted on YouTube or Drive with no access restrictions. It must be a maximum of two minutes long and cannot be edited. The title, publisher and author of the work must be indicated. The fragments will be evaluated by a jury that will select five finalists in each category - prose and poetry - and will make its decision public on April 10. Afterwards, the UAB will host the final phase, which will be in person and will take place on 25 April. The winners and finalists will be awarded with a set of books published by Grup Enciclopèdia and the co-organising universities.

This contest is part of Grup Enciclopèdia's VeuAlta project, which aims to promote literature and language through reading aloud in groups by offering resources and training for all audiences. This initiative also aims to provide new knowledge on the benefits of reading aloud through studies and publications. Since the 2004/05 school year, the School Reading Aloud Competition has been organised with the collaboration of the Government of Catalonia to promote reading among the school population.

The Barcelona Knowledge Alliance brings together public institutions of higher education from the metropolitan region of Barcelona and aims to be a collaborative framework for the promotion of culture, science and knowledge transfer. It was presented this past November by the rectors of the UAB (Javier Lafuente), the UB (Joan Guàrdia), the UPC (Daniel Crespo) and the UPF (Laia de Nadal). The platform also aims to contribute to promoting the visibility and international positioning of its member universities for the benefit of the citizens of Barcelona, its metropolitan region and Catalonia in general.
