Mobility Week 2017

From 20 to 24 October, the UAB will be celebrating its Ninth Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week with the objective of raising awareness amongst its university community on the advantages of sustainable mobility (walking, bicycling, taking public transport and car sharing). To do so, the university will be offering a series of activities throughout the week, especially on 22 October, coinciding with "Bicycle Day".

Throughout the week, UAB members will be able to visit the exhibit "2008-2014 UAB Mobility Plan", the mobility plan which has allowed the campus to improve many aspects related to the mobility of people. The exhibit will be on display at the faculties of Philosophy and Arts, Communication Studies and Sciences and Biosciences, as well as at the Plaça Cívica, on different days. A bicycle will be raffled among all attendants.

Free efficient driving classes will be offered by the RACC Foundation on 21 and 23 October. The classes include theoretical and practical lessons and aim to show drivers how to save on fuel, reduce maintenance costs and gas emissions, etc.

Many activities are programmed for Wednesday 22 October, coinciding with UAB's "Bicycle Day". On Wednesday, the UAB will present the integral version of its bicycle plan (BiciUAB), which takes into account all actions needed to promote the use of bicycles as a common means of transport around the Bellaterra Campus. Bike lanes, enclosed bike stations, rental and repair services, and shower services are some of the aspects of the BiciUAB Plan. At 10 am at the Cinema Hall. At 11 am, the new bike lane connecting the entrance to the campus with the Rectorate building will be inaugurated.

From 10 am to 2 pm, electric bicycles and cars will be on display and visitors will be able to try them out. All those interested in getting their bike checked can take it to the Plaça Cívica from 10 am to 6 pm. There they will be told in what state their bike is and basic recommendations to keep it in good conditions. Experts will be available to offer any advice needed and bike owners will only have to pay for any new pieces they may need.

On "Bicycle Day", the UAB will also offer a conference entitled "What is an Electric Bicycle and How Does it Work?", offered by experts from the VAIC firm in Sant Cugat. There has been a boom in electric bicycles on the market in recent years, with a diversity of models and systems which offer a growing array of possibilities when travelling on sloped roads, such as the ones found on campus. The conference will be offered from 12 noon to 12:45 pm and from 4:15 to 5 pm at the Plaça Cívica.

Guided tours on foot or on bike will be offered during the whole week. All those interested can sign up for the day and route they wish to participate in. In addition to discovering new areas, participants will receive a free breakfast at the Plaça Cívica Bar Restaurant on Wednesday, 22 October and free entrance to use the showers at the SAF gym. All those with a bicycle will also be able to try out the new enclosed bike station.
