Statement by the CIC's Women and Science Commission in support of the women of Iran

The Women and Science Commission of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia, with representation from all universities in Catalonia, would like publicly to state its support to the women of Iran, and their fight for their rights and liberties and against the violent acts perpetrated against them.

Therefore, the Commission wishes to manifest:

1. Its condemnation of the murder of the young Iranian woman Masha (Zhina) Amini at hands of the police after she was arrested for not wearing a veil correctly, as well as its condemnation for the deaths of other men and women during the rallies in favour of these fundamental rights.
2. Its full support to the Iranian women and their fight for their rights and freedom, and against the gender violence that harasses and assaults them.
3. Its rejection to the governmental decision of suspending classes at the main universities of the country, which have in these past few days become places of protests.
4. Its solidarity with women all over the world suffering violence for the mere fact of being women.
5. Its strive to guarantee the respect for the rights of women and all humans within the university system of Catalonia.

The commission adheres to the slogan which has begun to fill the streets: "Women, Life, Freedom".
