On Wednesday 1 March, at 1 p.m., the UAB Theatre will host the premiere of the play «Solitude in Stromboli. Dreams, signs and symbols», a production that delves into the parallel universes of the play Solitude by Caterina Albert and the film Stromboli by Rossellini and highlights the plot and descriptive coincidences between the Italian director's film and the novel of the famous Catalan writer.

Solitud a Stromboli

"Thanks to Solitude, Stromboli is the masterpiece with which modern cinema began. Víctor Català is thus the other face of this great summit of European cinema", the synopsis of the drama highlights.

The dramaturgy made by Nuria Casado and directed by Imma Colomer is inspired by the study of the former professor of the Institute of Catalan Language and Literature, Rosa Delor, entitled Roberto Rossellini II: Stromboli y Solicitudine de Víctor Català, which was published in the book The Metamorphosis of Desire, which unravels the script similarities between the best-known novel by one of the great pioneers of Catalan literature, Caterina Albert, artistically distinguished by her pseudonym Victor Català, and the audiovisual production of one of the most important directors of Italian neorealism.

The public will be able to enjoy for free (limited to the capacity of the reserved space) a stage performance based on the premise that, thanks to Solitude, Stromboli is the masterpiece with which modern cinema began. Caterina Albert can also be considered one of the forerunners of the European cinema. An influence that the Italian director never mentioned in the credits of his legendary film.

«Solitude in Stromboli. Dreams, signs and symbols» is a show in Catalan starring Fina Rius, who plays the role of an expert of comparative literature who has been invited to give the inaugural lecture at an international congress of European cinema.

This play delves into demonstrating the unacknowledged influence that the Catalan writer exerted on the Italian filmmaker in his most famous film work. The play, promoted by the theatre and film production company Nurosfera, also invites the spectator to reflect on the concept of authorship, the imaginative process, the unknown and recognised creatives throughout history, and the influences that can be nurtured between various authors.
