From 26 June to 15 July 2024, UAB students can participate in a new micro-module, which can be validated for 3 ECTS credits, that will address, from the hand of experts and social and political activists, migration in Europe, border territories, European policies, racist and xenophobic discourses and the rights of refugees and migrants.

Europa fortalesa

In a context of global inequalities, armed conflicts, hate speech and xenophobia, human rights violations against migrants, especially women, children and LGBTQI+ people, are alarming. These issues are most evident in the territories surrounding European borders, currently considered non-legal zones. The social narrative on refugees and migration is influenced by media and biased readings, undermining the struggle for their rights. Exclusion, xenophobia and criminalisation in fortified Europe make migrants and racialised people more vulnerable.

Faced with this situation, the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), together with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and its Solidarity Foundation (FAS), organise the micro-module "Fortress Europe: human rights violations against migrants and refugees at Europe's borders", which aims to be a strategic opportunity for future professionals to be critical citizens in the face of human rights violations and the rise of racist and xenophobic discourses.

With the voice of experts and social and political activists, there will be face-to-face sessions at the UAB and online, self-learning workshops and evaluation sessions that will strengthen the community role of the university in the generation, appropriation and promotion of knowledge and critical analysis.

All information about registration requirements and the programme can be found here. Registration is open until 15 April.
