Second edition of the Bioresearch Workshop
The departments of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology; Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; and Genetics and Microbiology have jointly organised the Bioresearch Workshop which will take place from 6 to 9 June at the Faculty of Biosciences.
The workshops aim to make visible the excellent research conducted at the UAB in this field and will include the participation of hundreds of researchers, dozens of oral presentations, poster sessions, and exhibition stands for collaborating companies. Each of the four days will focus on presentations of research contributions by members of the departments most involved in teaching and research in the fields of Bioscience and Biomedicine. On 6 June presentations will be by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; on 7 June, by the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology; on 8 June, by the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology; and on 9 June, by the Department of Genetics and Microbiology.
On the last day, Thursday 9 June, the conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences will hast the closing session at 12:30 a.m., entitled “Rethinking biomarkers: measures of cell activity accurately predict phenotypes”, by researcher Joaquim Dopazo from the Prince Felipe Research Centre (CIPF) in Valencia. Dr Dopazo is one of the world's leading biocomputer specialists. He is currently Head of the CIPF Department of Computational Genomics and of the Functional Genomics Node at the Instituto Nacional de Bioinformática (INB). He is an international leader in functional genomics, systems biology and in the development of algorithms and software for the massive analysis of data and its application to personalised medicine, agrigenomics and nutrigenomics.
