Salvador Navarro elected new dean of the Faculty of Medicine

Salvador Navarro, professor of the UAB Department of Surgery, was recently elected dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The faculty board elected him dean in an extraordinary session held on 12 July. The new team will take possession of their posts on 1 September. Dean Navarro will be taking over from Vicent Fonollosa, who has served as dean since 2017.

The new team will also include Francesca Canalias, Secretary of the Faculty; Montserrat Solanas, Vice Dean for Academic Quality and Accreditation; Assumpta Caixàs, Vice Dean for Academic Programmes and Students; Eva Montané, Vice Dean for Mobility; Jaume Kulisevsky, Vice Dean for Graduate Programmes; Jordi Casademont, Vice Dean for Lecturers and Planning, and Xavier Navarro, Vice Dean for Economy.

After being a resident medical intern at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Salvador Navarro worked as surgeon at the hospitals of Sant Boi de Llobregat and Viladecans, at the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona and since 2010 until now, he works at the Parc Taulí University Hospital in Sabadell. At the UAB, he has directed the Department of Surgery, coordinator of the Teaching Unit at Parc Taulí, coordinator of the bachelor's degree in Medicine and Vice Deam of Students and Mobility. He has also held many other institutional positions.

The new dean of the Faculty of Medicine has published over 140 indexed publications and 24 book chapters, and he has also been involved in 59 subsidised research projects, as well as directed 19 PhD theses. He was president of the Catalan Society of Surgery and member of the scientific committee of the Spanish Association of Surgery. He received the Pere Virgili Prize in 2019 from the Catalan Society of Surgery and a Professional Excellence Prize from the Official Doctors' Association of Barcelona, as well as many other distinctions.
