Martí Gibert i Karen Dayanna
The UAB Festa Major will take place on 5 November. All day there will be activities for all tastes, most of them in the Plaça Cívica and the Plaça del Coneixement.

The opening speech, at 1 pm in the Plaça Cívica, will start the festivities off. This year the speakers are Karen Dayanna, who studies Psychology, and Martí Gibert, a Nanotechnology student. Karen has just started the first year of her degree after completing the  “Psychological Processes: Motivation and Emotion” course at the Universitat d’Estiu-Summer Term, where she finished with honours and finally decided to take a psychology degree. Martí is studying on the Beques-Salari Ítaca programme of the UAB grants supported by Banco Santander. He now plans to go to Japan to complete his studies and to write his Bachelor’s thesis.

After the speech, the Plaça Cívica will be full of artistic and fun activities to take part in as well as protest actions. In the Institutions Fair you will find information about societies, services and other projects at the UAB. There will be activities like Què FAS de festa?, a game about the effects of alcohol on road safety and sexual relations; Tandem meeting, a gathering of international students; #RegalaParaulesUAB to decorate the square with words we like; a Gender Level Test to assess your knowledge about gender issues; and Piu Piu Caixes Niu! a game to identify the different species of bird that fly around the Campus. The fair will also challenge you with the Participa a la fira! Gymkhana , if you complete the challenge you could win a €50 Abacus voucher (check the conditions here). Other activities include a performance by the Colla de Bastoners of the UAB, the UAB Choir or a swing workshop. At 1.15pm there will be a screening of the film An (Una pastelería en Tokio) directed Naomi Kawase in the UAB Cinema. In the afternoon, music from two DJs will fill the Plaça Cívica and at 8 pm the Festa Major will close with a batucada by Batrakes in the Plaça Cívica.

In front of the Resource Centre for Student Societies, whose doors will be open to everyone, there will be activities like #MicroObert, where you will be able to contribute  ideas to improve society, and swing dance steps.

One of the highlights of the Festa Major will be the Diada Castellera, where, the UAB's own Ganàpies will be joined by the Trempats of UPF and the Penjats of UPC Manresa. SAF, which will also be opening its doors, will host the II Torneig de la Ferradura, a rugby championship organized by the UAB's Centaures.

Another important venue for the Festa Major will be the Plaça del Coneixement, where you will find stalls where students will sell food and drinks, a Xiringu, where you will find answers to questions about sexuality and an Energy Control stand, to keep the festivities under control. The performances by the winners of Autónoma Actua. will start at 1 pm.

Environmental health and harmony at the FM
The FMUAB includes campaigns like the one organized by the Observatori per a la Igualtat, which encourages everyone to enjoy a sexism-free Festa Major. They're also giving away “eco-pinças” to carry reusable plastic cups. The FAS campaign will give away plastic bottles to avoid accidents with glass bottles and, at the same time, encourage prevention and promote awareness of the consumption of substances during the FM.
