Journalist Txell Feixas to give the inaugural speech of the UAB's 2025/26 academic year

Journalist Txell Feixas, from the international section of the TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, will inaugurate the 2025/26 academic year with a speech entitled "Sense diversitat no hi ha mirades, sense mirades no hi ha periodisme. El cas de Gaza". The institutional event will take place on 8 October at 12 noon at the conference hall of the Rectorat building. The event will be presided by Rector Javier Lafuente and will mark the start of the academic year dedicated to diversity. The event will be streamed live on the UAB's YouTube channel.

Txell Feixas has received many awards in recognition for her rigorousness, humanity and determination as a journalist to give visibility to the life of women in vulnerable or conflictive areas.

Journalist Txell Feixas Torras, editor of the international news section at TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, will speak at the inauguration of the 2025/26 academic year. Her speech focuses on the importance of diversity in journalism, with Gaza as an example, and is entitled "Sense diversitat no hi ha mirades, sense mirades no hi ha periodisme. El cas de Gaza"

the event will be presided by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente and will mark the start of the academic year dedicated to diversity, with the goal of recognising, understanding, accepting and valuing diversity as a way to enrich our existence and how we do things, as well as appreciate the uniqueness and differences of each individual. With this in mind, the UAB has created the concept of unidiversity, which will be the central theme of this new academic year.

The rector will be accompanied by Esther Zapater, secretary general of the UAB; Carlos Cordón, mayor of Cerdanyola del Vallès; Tania Nadal, President of the UAB Social Council; and Oriol Escardíbul, secretary general of the Ministry for Research and Universities of the Government of Catalonia. The inauguration will include a video report of the past academic year, a highlight of the most outstanding events and projects conducted at the UAB. There will also be a performance by the Quartet Moana, who will perform several musical themes.

The journalist career of Txell Feixas

Txell Feixas earned her degree in Journalism at the UAB and has worked as a journalist for more than twenty years. In the past decade she focused on the Middle East, where she worked as a correspondent, based in Beirut, for TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio (3Cat). Her coverage included the war in Syria, the conflict in Iraq, the fall of the Islamic State, the Great March of Return demonstrations at the Gaza border, the return of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, and the earthquakes in Turkey.

In 2021, she debuted with her first book Dones valentes (Ara Llibres), and in 2023, she presented Aliades. Les nenes de Xatila desafien les regles del joc (Ara Llibres). She received the National Prize for Journalism and Media from the Government of Catalonia in 2024, and the Montserrat Roig Jury Prize from the Barcelona City Council in 2023. All the awards highlight her her rigorousness, humanity and determination as a journalist to give visibility to the life of women in vulnerable or conflictive areas.
