José Antonio Bonilla awarded an Honourable Mention in the UPC Science Fiction Award

On 17 November the UPC's Social Council announced the awarding of an Honourable Mention in the Miquel Barceló Science Fiction Award to José Antonio Bonilla for his novel Purgatorio.

The final resolution of the UPC Social Council on this year's awards was announced on 17 November. An Honourable Mention in the Miquel Barceló Science Fiction Award will be conferred onto José Antonio Bonilla for his novel Purgatorio.

Bonilla received his degree in Biology and Biochemistry from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is now academic administrator at the UAB Faculty of Arts & Humanities and his passion revolves around genre fiction, particularly science fiction and horror novels. Among the awards he has received are the distinction as Finalist of the 21st Domingo Santos Science Fiction Award in 2012 for his novel La Inconquistable, which was also the Finalist of the 5th Villa de Maracena Horror Novel Award (2010) and the 2nd City of Utrera Horror Novel Award (2014). In 2018 he also won the 6th City of Utrera Horror Novel Award for his novel Ciudad espejo. The prize consisted in a 2,000 euro cash prize and the publishing and distribution of his novel by the Premium Editorial publishing house, which included the novel as part of its Tánatos series. His novels have also received honourable mentions in the UPC Science Fiction Award editions of 1994, 1995, and 1997.

He is also author of Pétalos de acero (Hermenaute, 2016), Juguetes rotos (Dilatando mentes, 2016), Sombras de metal (Apache Libros, 2018), Tiempo de Caza (Dilatando Mentes, 2018), Las Flores de Perséfone (Valhalla Ediciones, 2021) and the essay Elemental, Fernández-Luna. Los archivos secretos del Sherlock Holmes español (Dilatando Mentes, 2022).
