Actes a la UAB pel Dia Internacional contra la Violència de Gènere
25 November is the International Day against Gender-violence and there will be several events on the UAB campus in protest against gender-based violence. First of all, the Observatory for Equality has invited the university community to hold a minute’s silence at 12 p.m. in Plaça Cívica in memory of the 92 women murdered this year in Spain. Immediately after, the chair of the Observatory for Equality, Joana Gallego, will read a manifesto followed by the hanging up of a symbolic purple ribbon in l’Àgora building (R building).

These actions aim to express rejection of gender-based violence in all of its forms, something that involves not only physical abuse, such as beatings, but may also be manifest in other forms, such as abuse of control and power, discrimination or psychological abuse. Gender-based violence is committed against women simply because they are women and exists both in private (such as in emotional relationships) and in public life and is a result of the permanent position of inequality of women in relation to men.

The Observatory for Equality organizes these activities to raise awareness among the university community of the seriousness of the current situation and to keep working against gender-based violence on the UAB campus and leisure areas. It is everyone’s responsibility to prevent gender-based violence. Help us achieve this goal!
