Jaume Plensa designs the cover of the new UAB Statutes
The new edition of the UAB Statutes will feature a work by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa on its cover. The original work, expressly created to illustrate the cover of the Statutes, was delivered to the UAB rector on 16 July.

Catalan sculptor Jaume Plensa, who was awarded an honorary doctorate by the UAB in 2018, has donated to the University the work that will illustrate the cover of the new UAB Statutes. The creation, expressly made for this purpose, was created over the spring months of this year and is a handmade print on paper.
On 16 July, UAB Rector Javier Lafuente received the original work from the artist in his studio, a painting that captures both the spirit of the University and the work of the author.
Jaume Plensa studied at the Llotja and the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, in Barcelona. He has lectured at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and regularly collaborates with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as a visiting professor. He often exhibits in galleries and museums in Europe, the United States and Asia, and very significant part of his work is destined to public spaces: he has works permanently installed in Spain, France, Japan, England, South Korea, Germany, Canada, the United States and China. His creative process has traversed multiple disciplines: he is an artist of materials, sensations and ideas, and his inspirations embrace literature, poetry, music and thought.
Plensa is an honorary academician of the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi and has received numerous awards for his career: the national visual arts awards of Catalonia and Spain, the National Graphic Art Award, the City of Barcelona Award and the Creu de Sant Jordi of the Government of Catalonia. Internationally, he has received the Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture, London; the award for best outdoor installation at the Global Fine Art Awards, Miami; and the Médaille de Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, Paris, among others. In 2018, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the UAB as part of a series of extraordinary distinctions approved to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the University.
The new UAB Statutes, which regulate all the institutional activity of the University, were approved by the members of the Senate on 20 June 2024 and entered into force on 11 March 2025. These are the third statutes of the UAB since the institution was founded 57 years ago.
