Ian Blanes becomes the new director of the School of Engineering

Ian Blanes, lecturer of the Department of Information and Communications Engineering, was recently elected director of the UAB School of Engineering. Blanes was elected during a board meeting held on 27 September, and will take office on 1 October. The new director takes over from Ramon Vilanova, who directed the school from 2019 until now.

The new team will be formed by Maria Aránzazu Uranga, Vice Director for Economics, Spaces and Quality; Francisca Blánquez, Vice Director for Academic Actions; Cristina Fernández, Vice Director for Students and Mobility; Aura Hernández, Vice Director for Gender and Secondary Schools; Francesc Xavier Roca, Vice Director for Promotion, Communication and Relation with Entitities; and Jordi González, who will be the new secretary.

Blanes's lectures include topics such as web development, networks, computer security and project management. With regard to research and transfer, he has co-authored several international standards on data compression for satellites and also participated in several technology transfer projects both for space agencies and different industries.
