Huge success of the first edition of the La Comunitària UAB celebration
The first edition of the La Comunitària UAB, a new cultural and festive way of celebrating the UAB community, took place on Wednesday 5 October and was attended by a large number of university members. Click here to view photos of the celebration.
Good weather accompanied the celebration of La Comunitària, a new way of enjoying being part of the UAB community. The event took place on wednesday 5 October and was a complete success. Lectures were suspended from 12 noon to 4 p.m. so that everyone could participate.
The celebrations began with an opening speech by Marta Estella, director of the Languages Service, and a presentation by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente.
Some thirty different activities took place around the Plaça Cívica, the SiS Area, the square in front of the Communications Library and General Newspaper Archivem the Associations' Resource Centre, the Entities Building and the Physical Activity Service (SAF).
The entities fair included almost all UAB associaitons and over 40 stands were present to offer information on their activities.
The UAB's human tower builders, the castellers Ganàpies, always present at the cultural and festive activities held on campus, did not miss the chance to perform during this special celebration.
The SiS Area, a new area created on the Central Axis between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Social Sciences, was another place that attracted many students. There was live music, with performances by the winners of the Fúria Fest music competition, Meconio, and by the UAB Choir, and also dance performances and areas where different games were played, such as the area in which 15 chess matches were being played simultaneously.
Over 300 paella dishes were served for lunch at the Plaça Cívica and 600 La Comunitària T-shirts were handed out to those participating in the activities, while a total of 130 people were able to see the film premiere at the UAB Cinema Hall.
The Associations' Resource Centre was turned into a gaming zone thanks to the Gamers UAB association. A total of 250 people signed up to play four online games simultaneously.
“No em toquis la llengua” [Don't Mess With My Language], the slogan for this year's institutional campaign, was also present at the 2022 edition of the La Comunitària UAB. The university aims to defend the use of the Catalan language in academic areas and also raise awareness of its cultural and historic value. The campaign thus takes a stance and adheres to the commitment of guaranteeing the presence of Catalan in all academic and research fields.
