At the Sant Pau Hospital the UAB conducts two types of research: one is focused on patients and the other, on the laboratory. This is explained here by Professor Joan Cinca, who at the same time encourages people to participate in the Cursa de la UAB in support of the Marató de TV3, dedicated this year to health diseases.

Joan Cinca: "All the advances made in fighting heart diseases have helped improve life expectancies."
The Marató de TV3, which will take place on 14 December, is dedicated this year to raising money for the research on heart diseases. "These are the main causes of death each year", explains Joan Cinca, UAB Professor in Cardiology and Director of the Cardiology Unit at the Hospital de Sant Pau i la Santa Creu.

In the video, he explains what his unit is in charge of and at the same time, he encourages more people to participate in the Cursa de la UAB, in support of the Marató de TV3, which will take place on 14 December. Running, and sports in general, is a very healthy way to prevent heart diseases.

Heart diseases represent 25% of mortality figures each year in Catalonia: one out of every four people dies because of a heart condition. In 2011, 13,000 Catalans died and hospitals admitted 105,000 people suffering from some sort of heart disease. Experts believe the number of people affected by these diseases will increase in the following 35 years.

The 23rd edition of the Marató de TV3 will take place on 14 December and will be dedicated to heart diseases, one of the main causes of death in Catalonia.

The Cursa de la UAB in support of the Marató de TV3 will also take place on the same day, on 14 December, and all money raised will go towards the marathon. There will be a 9 km race and a 5 km walk. The race will begin at 11 am and the walk at 11:20 am; the starting point and the finish line will both be at the Vila Universitària. Last year 9,000 euros were raised and over 2,000 people participated.
