Francesc Parcerisas, National Culture Prize

Francesc Parcerisas, professor at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, was awarded the National Culture Prize for the importance of his works, both as an author and translator, and for his contributions to Catalan literature as head of the Institution for Catalan Literature (ILC) from 1998 to 2004.

The jury of the prize conferred by the national council on culture and art, Consell Nacional de la Cultura i de les Arts (CoNCA), highlighted his contribution to Catalan literature, from his earliest works such as Homes que es banyen (1970) and the short stories Triomf del present. Obra poètica 1965-1983 (1991), as well as creations such as Natura morta amb nens (2000), Dos dies més de sud (2006) and his latest work Seixanta-un poemes (2014). The jury also recognised the excellence of his translations into Catalan, especially that of the Lord of the Rings by Tolkien (2002) and Odyssey (2010), as well as other books by Joseph Conrad, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Seamus Heaney, and many more. It also pointed out his work at the Institution for Catalan Literature between 1998 and 2004 and his contribution to consolidating this centre.

The CoNCA council awards these prizes, considered to be the most important prize in culture in Catalonia, to people and entities in recognition for the excellence of their works, the continuity in their tasks and a personal and innovative look on their field of activity.

The awards ceremony will be held on 17 June.
