Fourth EpJG Seminar: Hopes and Decolonial Resistance
The Fourth EpJG seminar, entitled “Esperances i resistències decolonials” [Hopes and Decolonial Resistance], aims to be a place in which to promote critical and inspiring dialogues between academia and social movements. The goal is to generate shared reflections on social struggles taking place in different parts of the Global North and Global South, with emphasis on experiences and practices related to feminisms, anti-racisms, peacebuilding and decolonial perspectives.
This seminar is the continuation of the Third EpJG Seminar held in 2024 and entitled “Universitats i Activismes”, which included the participation of lectures, researchers and technical staff from the UAB, the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), Mexico; and the Universidad de Antioquia (UdeA), Colombia. The third edition focused on the transversality of social actions within the university environment, while this year's edition aims to give voice to activists who can share their experiences in social mobilisations inside and outside the university.
The seminar is divided into two sessions. The first, "Territories and Border Resistances" (22 October at 6:00 p.m. Barcelona / 9:00 a.m. Mexicali), will open a dialogue on policies that violate the rights of migrants and indigenous peoples. Participants from Catalonia will include Victoria Columbia, an anti-racist migrant activist, journalist, spokesperson for the #RegularizaciónYA movement, and a participant in the Anticolonial Bloc and the 8M Assembly. From Baja California, Juana Inés Albañez Arballo, poet and promoter of the Pa Ipai language, a student in the Master's degree in Education at UABC, and Yinna Aldama, architect and leader of the Kumiai people, will participate.
The second session, "Resistance Under the Genocide in Gaza", will feature the participation of Amina El Hassak Bouchakroute, student of the degree in Translation and Interpreting and activist of the UAB for Palestine association; and Adel Mohamed, industrial engineer, Palestinian-Mexican activist, co-founder of the Mexicali Committee of Solidarity with Palestine.
The sessions will promote dialogue about mobilisations in different regionis, highlighting the diversity of contexts and at the same time the common points that link global resistances.
