First edition of "Fly & Grow" at the Sabadell campus
On 6 May the UAB's Sabadell campus organised the first edition of its “Fly & Grow Sabadell”, an initiative promoted by students of the UAB bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Management, with the aim of bringing university talent closer to the needs of this professional sector. Some 100 students and eight leading companies of the aeronautical sector participated in the event.
The Fly & Grow Sabadell event, an initiative promoted by students of the Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Management of the UAB School of Engineering, brought together nearly 100 students and eight leading entities in the aeronautical industry. The day was designed to promote direct contact between young talent and companies, provide students with knowledge of career opportunities in the sector, and raise awareness of the needs of aeronautical companies.
"Today is the first edition of this type of event, and we hope that it will grow each year. We are very excited because we believe that it can be very useful and beneficial for students and future professionals", commented one of the students who coordinated the organisation of the event.
Among the entities that participated were the air and airport navigation managers ENAIRE and AENA, the airline Volotea, as well as specialised teaching centres such as Barcelona Flight School, Hangar 10, and ITAÉREA. The event also included the participation of the air simulation network IVAO and the student association AEAE.
Fly & Grow Sabadell is inspired by the experience of the MEMEnginy technology fair. Based on this reference, the meeting adapts the model to a smaller and more specialised scale, focused specifically on the aeronautical sector as a strategic and often unknown branch of engineering.
A stand and information area was set up in the entrance hall where companies presented their selection processes, the most in-demand profiles, and career opportunities.
At 6:30 p.m. a round table with UAB alumni took place, in which four former students of Aeronautical Management, currently working in the sector, shared their professional experience and answered the students' questions: Iván Sánchez (project manager), Raquel Peña (Crew Logistics Analyst), Daniel Egea (pilot), and Fernando Sánchez (software engineer).
In addition, in some spaces there were flight simulators, and in others, air traffic control (ATC) simulators, which allowed attendees to have a hands-on experience of how the aeronautical sector works.
Ian Blanes, director of the School of Engineering, was accompanied by members of his team and the head of the Sabadell campus, Judith Panadès, as they gave visitors a tour of the different spaces included in this event.
The meeting was completed with a networking space designed to promote direct contact between students and company representatives in a close and informal environment, facilitating the generation of synergies and future job opportunities.
Studies with a high professional demand
The UAB offers the bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Management at its Sabadell campus. This four-year academic programme (240 credits) trains professionals capable of making decisions in the organisation and management of airlines and in the strategic and logistical planning of an airport. With the foreseen demand for passenger air transport in Europe in the coming years, professionals in the field of aeronautical management are in high demand to guarantee an efficient, affordable, safe and sustainable air transport system.
