From 17 to 20 June the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts will host the Fourth International Conference on Literary Juvenilia, organised by the Department of English and German Studies. The first critical edition of the book "A Search After Happiness" by Hannah More, prepared by PhD students at the UAB, will be presented.
Fourth International Conference on Literary Juvenilia
This conference will be dedicated to the study of literature (and other types of writings) in English produced by young authors from the 18th century up to present days.

The meeting, which will for the first time be celebrated in a non-English speaking country, reunites a group of specialists from this field coming from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Russia, Switzerland, Catalonia and Spain.

Apart from an intense and diverse programme, the conference will also include the worldwide presentation of the critical edition of A Search After Happiness, the first book written by English author Hannah More (1745-1833), published by The Juvenilia Press (Sydney, Australia). This edition is the result of the work of Alexandra Prunean, Noèlia Sánchez and Reyhane Vadidar, PhD students from the Department of English and German Studies, under the supervision of lecturer and researcher David Owen.

English author Hannah More (1745-1833) is an extremely important figure within the literary culture of Britain in the 18th and 19th centuries. A figure of political conservatism and social morality, educator and reformist. Considered a great intellectual, she included other renowned intellectual, artistic and cultural figures within her circle of friends, and was a strong influence on writers of the end of the 18th century, such as Jane Austen.

The presentation of the book will take place on Wednesday 17 June at 1:30 pm at the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts. The event will include the participation of Manuel Santirso, Vice Dean of University Community and Academic Promotion; Christine Alexandra, professor of English Literature at the University of New South Wales; and PhD students Alex Prunean and Noelia Sánchez, and lecturer David Owen.
