Call upon PAS and PDI to collaborate in the UAB Solidarity Meal

On 23 April a Solidarity Meal will take place at the UAB on the occasion of the Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April. The collaboration of the PAS (Administrative and Service Staff) and PDI (Teaching and Research Staff) will be essential. The UAB Solidarity Meal is an activity that has been carried out in past academic years and whose objective is to raise awareness on food waste and fight against poverty. The wholesalers of fruits and vegetables of Mercavallès will give food that can no longer be sold but they are totally edible. Food will be prepared for the Solidarity Meal and food leftovers will be given to social entities from cities near the university. At the same time, in exchange for food, participants will give non perishable food that will be donated to the Food Bank Foundation.

In addition to PAS and PDI volunteers, the FAS group Menja Just and the staff of the Environmental Office will participate in the organisation of the activity.
 
PAS and PDI volunteers can participate in the following tasks:
 
- Awareness action to Mercavallès' wholesalers so that they keep the food collected for the Solidarity Meal.
- Food collection in Mercavallès and transport to the UAB with the transport of MRW Foundation.
- Assembly of the structure and the space for the Solidarity Meal at the Plaça Cívica.
- Preparation, cooking and distribution of food under the guidance of professional chefs.
- Collection and storage of food suitable of being distributed by the Food Bank.

This activity is included in the new project "UAB Social Engagement", which is being promoted by the UAB and the FAS. This project aims to consolidate the university as a socially responsible space with institutional management and the immediate environment and it will promote the involvement and transference of the UAB in social issues and connected to the area and its social entities through the promotion of the PAS and PDI volunteering. The initiative will propose other ways for the participation, such as volunteering in the 6^th Healthy and Sustainable Week.
