ACUP Statement regarding general strike on 21 February
Statement by the rectors of Catalonia's public universities of Barcelona, UAB, Politècnica de Catalunya, Pompeu Fabra, Girona, Lleida, Rovira i Virgili, and Oberta de Catalunya, with regard to the general strike announced for 21 February.
1. The university must, at all times, be a space for freedom, dialogue and the defence of social progress, within a context of democratic coexistence and respect for ideas, and with no impositions.
2. In order to guarantee the right to strike, we request university authorities to postpone any evaluable academic activities and those requiring attendance.
3. At the same time, we request strike organisations to guarantee the right of those students not on strike and who wish to attend lectures.
