TransMedia Catalonia research group takes part in the UN summits on artificial intelligence and innovation with social impact
From 6 to 8 July, the UAB TransMedia Catalonia research group will be taking part, as member of the Xarxa AccessCat, in several sessions of the World Summit on the Information Society and the AI for Good Global Summit, held in Geneva and hosted by the United Nations.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the AI for Good Global Summit are two parallel events organised by the main UN agencies (the ITU, UNICEF and UNESCO, among others) with the aim of guaranteeing a global digital cooperation to build inclusive, people-centered, and development-oriented information and knowledge societies.
This year, both events are taking place in Geneva during the week of 6-10 July, and the UAB’s TransMedia Catalonia group will be there, under the representation of the AccessCat Network. In total, the group will participate in four sessions exploring how to approach a future where emerging technologies (such as AI) place humans and their needs (and diversities) at the centre:
- Accessible digital educational environments: transferring research knowledge will include the participation of lecturer Estel·la Oncins, accompanied by several researchers from the UPF and UVic-UCC universities. 6 July from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
- AI and Virtual Worlds: Examining Governance Structures and Emerging Challenges will include the participation of lecturer Pilar Orero, accompanied by experts from Harvard and Amazon. 7 July from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
- AI and audiovisual accessibility for digital inclusion will include lecturers Anna Matamala and Estel·la Oncins, accompanied by experts from the Swiss public television station and the UN's International Telecommunications Union (ITU). 7 July from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.
- Embodied AI for multimedia technologies: From perception to human collaboration workshop, which will include lecturer Anna Matamala, accompanied by representatives of the UN and other international organisations. 8 July from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
TransMedia Catalonia will also be present at the Xarxa AccessCat stand to showcase their research on an international stage attended by governments, lawmakers, and global institutions.
