The UAB Institute of Educational Sciences organises summer activities for secondary school teachers and students
The UAB Institute of Educational Sciences (ICE) is offering two types of activities this summer, each aimed at a different educational group, but with the same objective in mind: fostering training, innovation and contact with the university. One activity is the ICE-UAB Summer School, offering training programmes for teachers of different school levels. The other is the Argó Programme, bringing secondary, upper secondary and vocational training students closer to university through practical activities, research experiences and academic guidance.
The UAB ICE Summer School will be held during the month of July and will be divided into two complementary parts. The first is the conference "Communicative teaching skills in the era of AI", which will take place on the mornings of 1, 2 and 3 July. The proposal focuses on teaching communication in all of its dimensions: oral, written, digital and non-verbal, in an educational context marked by social and technological changes, and particularly by the emergence of artificial intelligence.
The days will combine an inaugural conference, practical workshops by areas, and spaces of shared reflection, with the objective of offering concrete and transferable activities on a day-to-day basis to the classroom, the centres and in the relationship with students, families and teaching teams. The proposal places the emphasis on what continues to be irreplaceable in education: the bond, the presence, and the quality of human communication.
The second part of the Summer School will include a wide window of courses, which will be held between 1 and 10 July in online and on-site formats. The trainings address areas such as mathematics, language, experimental sciences, the teaching of reading and writing, scientific competence, metacognition, working by projects, the personalisation of learning, and literary education, among others. They all share a practical perspective and a clear will to directly transfer knowledge to the classroom and improve teaching methods.
More than 400 pre-university students
At the same time, the UAB ICE also organises the Argó Programme, an initiative linked to the UAB Vice-Rectorate for Training and Teaching Innovation, with the participation of more than four hundred students from secondary, upper secondary and vocational training cycles. This year's edition offers 25 different courses, distributed over three weeks: 6 courses from 22 to 26 June, 12 courses from 29 June to 3 July, and 7 courses from 6 to 10 July. Topics such as artificial intelligence, psychology, criminology, genetics, medicine, communication, social sciences, and mathematics will be covered by UAB lecturers.
Four research stays are also offered to students: "Phage therapy as an alternative to antimicrobial treatment", "Microbes and water", "Computer skills at the School of Engineering" and "Do you want to see materials from the inside?". Some thirty first-year upper secondary school students will participate for several days as members of research groups, laboratories, departments and centres of the university to have the opportunity to learn about scientific activities up close and work alongside research staff from different disciplines.
