The UAB to celebrate InfoK's 25th anniversary with a conference at the Faculty of Communication Studies

InfoK is a unique news programme aimed at children in Catalonia that has been characterised by its quality and ability to report in a language adapted to its audience, not only on current affairs, but also on complex issues such as bullying, fake news, armed conflicts, etc. As part of the events celebrating these 25 years, the UAB and 3Cat will organise a congress to reflect on how information aimed at children is treated, on its educational aspect, and on the challenge the media faces in a scenario in which screens are the media perspective for adolescent consumption.

The congress programme will include three round tables organised around three axes of debate led by experts from the academic, educational and journalistic worlds. Noteworthy is the plenary conference that will inaugurate the congress and will be given by Lewis James, editor of the BBC's children's news programme Newsround, a programme that began broadcasting in 1972 and that pioneered this topic in Europe. The event will conclude with a participatory debate where children themselves will have the opportunity to have their say.

The congress will also feature the participation of professionals working with InfoK, such as journalists Manel Alías, Laia Servera and its current director, Núria Vilanova. The academic part will feature researchers from all over the country who are experts in information and children, education, outreach and psychology such as David Bueno, from the University of Barcelona; Mónica Figueras, from the Pompeu Fabra University; Salvi Canadell, head of the Digital Culture Area of ​​the Ministry for Education and Professional Training of the Government of Catalonia; José Alberto García Avilés, from the Miguel Hernández University; Cristina Mercader and Santiago Giraldo, from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; Sara Malo, from the University of Girona; and Miguel Ángel Casado from the University of the Basque Country.

The conference "25 years of InfoK. The challenge of informing children in the digital environment" has been curated by Marta Narberhaus, from the Faculty of Communication Studies of the UAB, who won the fourth edition of the Montserrat Minobis grant with the project "Gender perspective in children's news. Study on the representation of women journalists, gender-sensitive topics, and the promotion of equality and women's rights in InfoK". She has also edited a collective book of the 25th anniversary of InfoK which will be presented at the conference.
