The UAB approves the budget for 2026
The Governing Council and the Social Council of the UAB have approved the University's budget for next year, which amounts to 450,243,933 euros. This budget represents an increase of 23.6 million euros (5.5%) compared to 2025. The Government of Catalonia is expected to make a contribution to cover the city expenses generated on campus.
Regarding the Univeristy's revenues, no change is expected in tuition fees for the 2026/27 academic year and a situation of stability is expected in terms of the enrolment of new students. In line with recent years, an increase in the securing of resources for research is foreseen. Government funding is expected to reflect a transfer for generational succession and the elimination of job insecurity, financing for aspects such as improving organisational aspects, and the contracting of licenses and software. It is also expected to compensate for the social security increases seen in recent years and the coverage of city expenses, which responds to a historical demand: the UAB has demanded for years funding that responds to the uniqueness that a campus university represents within the Catalan university system.
With regards to university expenditures, the UAB will dedicate items to aspects such as the technicalisation of the administrative staff, the increase in lecturing positions and the Maria Goyri programme, the new sabbatical programme, an additional increase in the university investment plan, and an increase in spending for the renewal of contracts and maintenance services, among others. The budget also dedicates more than five million euros to measures that prevent and mitigate environmental impact (building efficiency, decarbonisation, etc.).
The budget was prepared with the best available information despite factors of uncertainty such as the approval of the Catalan Government's budget for next year, or the possible implementation of a new financial model for the Catalan university system reflecting the objective of dedicating 1% of GDP to higher education institutions. Furthermore, the UAB's budget for 2026 was designed in a context of economic growth within Catalonia, while also taking into account the uncertainties regarding the current macroeconomic and geopolitical situation.
