Manel López Béjar reelected dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

Manel López Béjar, lecturer in the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy at the UAB, has been reelected dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, after winning the elections held on 24 and 25 November. López Béjar has been the faculty dean since January 2023.

The voting for the single candidacy of López Béjar were held on 24 and 25 November 2025, and the final results were announced on Monday 1 December 2025.

Along with López Béjar, the new dean's team will be made up of lecturers Francesc Accensi Alemany, Anna Andaluz Martínez, Marta Capellas Puig, Xavier Manteca Vilanova, Joaquim Segalés Coma and Montserrat Rivera del Álamo.

Manel López Béjar has been the dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine since 2023, a position he had already held between 2008 and 2011. He also held the position of vice-dean at the Western University of Health Sciences in California, and vice-rector for Research at the UAB. With an outstanding career in teaching, research and university governance, he has contributed to the advancement of animal welfare, reproductive physiology, and the conservation of biodiversity. His leadership incorporates a firm commitment to the emotional well-being of students and the veterinary profession.

Author of more than 250 scientific articles and supervisor of 20 doctoral theses, he directs the ERPAW research group and is part of the GRI-BCN on human and animal infertility.

Manel López Béjar is also the first dean of the center elected according to the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), with an election system by universal suffrage and weighted vote. The LOSU establishes that the mandate of the holders of elected single-person bodies is, in all cases, of six years, non-extendable and non-renewable.
