According to the Times Higher Education ISR 2026 ranking, the UAB occupies the 41st position worldwide among the highest scoring universities in interdisciplinary research, and ranks first in Spain.
The Times Higher Education (THE) has just published the second edition of its Interdisciplinary Research Rankings (ISR). This ranking assesses a variety of specific aspects of the research conducted jointly by different disciplines in the field of sciences and also with other research disciplines, to measure the contribution and commitment of universities to scientific interdisciplinarity. This year, the Times Higher Education has classified 911 universities from 94 countries.
In this second edition, the UAB ranks 41st worldwide, seventh in Europe, and first among universities in Spain, with an overall score of 69.8 points. At a national level, it is followed by the University of Barcelona (in 47th position worldwide), the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and the University of Salamanca (both in 156th position), the only universities in Spain among the top 200 in the world.
The ranking is based on three blocks with different indicators, each of them belongin either to inputs, process or outputs. By blocks, the UAB obtains its best score in the outputs block (81.3 points), followed by the process block (50 points) and inputs (47.1 points). In this edition THE introduces a change in the methodology, including disciplines outside the STEM field as long as they carry out interdisciplinary research with disciplines from the scientific and technological field.
