Hepzibar Clilverd's PhD thesis on animal health receives the Syva Award International

The PhD thesis by Veterinary researcher Hepzibar Clilverd Maymó was chosen best PhD thesis in animal health from a total of 32 international theses. She is the winner of the 28th edition of the Syva Award International.

Researcher Hepzibar Clilverd Maymó, who did her thesis at the UAB and was a fellow of the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, has won the Syva International Award for best PhD thesis, endowed with 18,000 euros.

The researcher was awarded for her PhD on “Micro-epidemiology of PRRS virus infection in vaccinated endemic farms”. She was awarded for her precise monitoring and interpretation of the transmission of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and for the methodological rigour, which reflects the ability of her research to be applied in practice. The PhD also stood out for its detailed and innovative approach to the virus in endemic and vaccinated swine farms.

In this 2025 edition, the Syva International Award has been boosted with a more international approach: 32 theses were evaluated, an unprecedented number since the creation of the award, and nominations were submitted from different countries.

The Syva International Prize is awarded to the three best PhD theses in animal health and its mission is to recognise excellence, foster a passion for veterinary medicine, and raise the profile of veterinary research worldwide.
