The SO-CLOSE project research team organises an online micro-conference and a round table which will be held respectively on 26 and 29 September, as well as a digital poster, to disseminate the objectives of this project and the tools being developed to stop stereotypes and bring about a social reflection of the social cohesion and integration of refugees.

SO-CLOSE

The European project SO-CLOSE, coordinated by the UAB, will be contributing to this year's European Research Night (Nit Europea de la Recerca 2022), which will take place on the final days of September in different places of Catalonia and Europe. The dissemination activities are organised by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona's research team and the Exile Memorial Museum (MUME), with the aim of raising awareness on research in the social and human sciences' fields and favour a public debate on social cohesion and integration of refugees.

The event's website includes a European Corner section, with information on different European projects in which Catalonia's institutions are also involved. Browsers will also find a detailed description of the SO-CLOSE project with the aim of learning about the currently existing challenges and solutions proposed.

On Monday 26 September, the Nit de la Recerca's YouTube channel will offer a micro-conference entitled "Podries ser tu!" [It Could Be You!], organised by the MUME and in which the museum reveals how it has put to use the tools created under the SO-CLOSE project.

This educational proposal aims to help detect, identify, and eliminate stereotypes and prejudices related to forces migrations. By using a webdoc format (https://so-closetools.eu/webdoc/museuexili/en/home/), several historical and present-day material is compiled to shed light on the public opinion of countries receiving refugees and the testimonials of many who have been refugees or experienced a migration process, as well as different resources which contribute to achieiving the goal of this proposal. The webdoc is accompanied by a didactical guide offering several activities which were designed jointly by refugees, Social Integration students, Educ'Art and members at MUME dedicated to the SO-CLOSE project.

The micro-conference will explain how these contents can be used to foster empathy and promote conscious, critical and responsible attitudes when facing the realities of migrants and refugees.

On Thursday 29 September, the Centre de Vida Comunitària of Trinitat Vella, Barcelona, will be holding a round table at 7:45 p.m. which is entitled "Refugiats, passat i present". The round table will include Noor Ogly, Lema Rashid and Javier Zamora, three refugees who escaped armed conflicts at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries, and who will discuss each of their experiences as forced migrants. Moderated by UAB lecturer in Modern and Contemporary History and coordinator of the SO-CLOSE European project Javier Rodrigo, the participants will take their personal experiences as the starting point to analyse the impact of forced migrations on today's societies, how refugees can find social cohesion, and the impact digital technologies may have on this whole process.

The debate will focus on the continuities and discontinuities caused by the need to flee from the war and support given to refugees, while also studying transversal topics such as gender equity. The public will be asked to join in on the debate and examples of digital tools will be shown, such as the webdoc described in the online micro-conference offered by the MUME.
