Migration, Asylum and Refuge during 2018-2019
18/09/2018
For the second year in a row, FAS’ Programa Acollida spreads awareness, mobilisation and training on migration and rights to asylum in order to make sure that people know the causes of forced displacement and to provide tools to take action within UAB’s context.
Project MAR: Migration, Asylum and Refuge in University suggests global action based on UAB community’s curricular impact, training and mobilization, which also encourages working hand-by-hand with different UAB agents and its closest environment. Final objective is strengthening university’s role as a key factor in defending migrants and refuge-seekers’ human rights.
The proposal spans a wide variety of actions inside and outside classrooms with active participation of professionals, societies and entities specialised in the field as well as other UAB agents that work within this field. In such manner, many activities will be carried out during the academic year: training capsules on refuge and shelter in several faculties, workshops with credit recognition on human rights and asylum and also advice to bachelor and master’s final year dissertations that span these topics. Furthermore, the screening series on migration and asylum will be carried out once again.
Concurrently, new interventions are suggested in order to consolidate knowledge transfer, debate and reflection on forced displacement such as trainings focused on refuge and shelter procedures addressed to teaching staff and Administrative and Service Staff. Finally, in May, a themed week on Human Rights and Migration will be celebrated, where several debates, workshops and awareness activities will be organised with the participation of faculties, research groups, specialised organisations and social movements. Furthermore, the organisation Comissió Catalana d’Ajuda al Refugiat’s participation in most suggested activities should be pointed out. They will soon work together with Comité Español de ACNUR’s, who will contribute with their expertise in the training and awareness activities that will be carried out in UAB.
This is developed within the framework of a university institutionally committed with this year’s slogan: #UABRefugi: l’Autònoma Acull. This context offers a real opportunity to reinforce the university’s role when promoting critical thinking and providing the tools, strategies and experiences that will allow to give a convincing, sustained and efficient answer to the defence of refugees and migrants’ rights.
