24 schools are receiving the support of the CROMA 2.0 Program

24 ESCOLES CROMA

The socio-educational program CROMA 2.0 has already started its activity, and expects the participation of 24 schools nearby the university for giving support to more than 280 elementary students.  UAB students promote workshops and mentoring for these kids coming from areas with limited resources.

The CROMA program has as its main objective the interest for the education of the students from 5º and 6º grade (last years of elementary school) that find themselves in a vulnerable situation both social and economical, and that lack accompaniment outside the school hours.

The principal activities are workshops where three fields are combined: group dynamics, studying support, and researching projects. These workshops are promoted by UAB students, mainly from the faculties of Education and Psychology.

Thanks to the voluntary participation of the UAB students, the university is closer than ever to the schools. Through the workshops, several proposals have been carried out, in terms of the research made by the university. This project takes place in 6-8 sessions and it is focused on a challenge that needs to be solved by the students. The results of this project will be presented by the end of May, in a closing ceremony.

Mentoring: individualised accompaniment

As a complement to the workshops, this project will also have continuity in the virtual mentoring. These are weekly meetings in which the UAB students help the kids of the program with their academic tasks. The mentoring is addressed to those students that show academic difficulties and they intend to provide an added value to the group work that is being carried out in the workshops. Moreover, these meetings enable the creation of emotional bonds between the mentors and the students.

This year, the program will be carried out in 24 state schools from the Vallès Occidental, in 6 areas: Cerdanyola, Montcada, Ripollet, Rubí, Sabadell, and Terrassa. Currently, 8 voluntary students and 9 scholarship students are participating.  The schools that have already started this activity are: Les Fontetes, Sant Martí, Serraparera, Turó de Guiera (from Cerdanyola); El Turó, El Viver, Front Freda and Reixac (from Montcada); Del Bosc, Montessory, Pau Casals and Ramon Llull (from Rubí); Antoni Ubach, Joan Marquès i Casals, Josep Ventalló and Ramón y Cajal (from Terrassa).
