The film is set in the fishing village of Capernaum in Lebanon. There develops a contemporary political fable about a child (Zain Alrafeea) who lives with his parents and siblings in the depths of misery of his country. He does not go to school; they exploit him for work and he suffers all kinds of violence. Finally, he goes to jail for a crime of justice. From prison he will denounce his own parents for "having brought him into the world".
