On 14 October, the UAB will inaugurate its Office for Japanese Studies, a centre that aims to promote the study and research of the Japanese language and culture here in Catalonia. It will receive the recognition of the Japan Foundation, an institution backed by the Japanese government.

The inauguration will take place at the Aula 4 of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting at 11 a.m. It will include the attendance of General Consul of Japan in Barcelona Yasushi Sato; Vice Rector for International Relations Màrius Martínez, and Director of the Office for Japanese Studies Kei Matsushima.

After the institutional speeches, there will be a musical performance by Hibiki Ichikawa, a master of shamisen, a traditional three-stringed Japanese musical instrument dating back to the 15th century, popularly used by geishas and in Kabuki plays.
