To mark the 100th anniversary of the Catalan organist Montserrat Torrent, the Auditorium of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities is hosting a seminar-concert to highlight her artistic career and her legacy in the recovery and promotion of organ music and historic organs. Montserrat Torrent was awarded an honorary doctorate by the UAB in 2007.

The event will include presentations by specialists on the Catalan concert organist: María Sanhuesa, lecturer at the University of Oviedo; Oriol Pérez Treviño, musicologist, essayist, and board member of the Montserrat Torrent Foundation; and Òscar Candendo, organist and lecturer at the Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC). Òscar Candendo will give an organ-illustrated lecture on key early publications in the revival of the Iberian repertoire for the instrument.

The event is organised by the UAB and the Montserrat Torrent Year Commission. The inauguration will be attended by Jordi Cerdà, Vice-Rector for Culture of the UAB; Margarita Freixas, dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities; and Albert Casals, lecturer in the Department of Didactics of Musical, Plastic and Corporal Expression. The closing will be given by Francesc Cortès, professor in the Department of Art and Musicology.

The event is open to all those interested in attending.
