Inauguration of "Memòries de l'Andana"

On Thursday 8 October, the Faculty of Arts & Humanities will inaugurate the "Memòries de l'Andana" exhibition. The inauguration will take place at 1:00 p.m. and the exhibition will be on display until 30 October. The proposal, launched by the UAB Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology with the support of the faculty's Dean's Office and the Vice-Rector for Culture and Language Policy, invites visitors to reflect on the central role women have had and continue to have in preserving and transmitting family heritage and collective memory.

Through photographs, personal documents, recordings, and oral testimonies, the exhibition establishes a dialogue between two fundamental axes: the traditional, domestic preservation of these collections, and the collective action for safeguarding and emergency response.

The first section pays tribute to the women who, from the private and family sphere, have preserved letters, albums or notebooks over generations that construct a shared identity. The second highlights the rescue and restoration work on photographic collections carried out by volunteers and technical teams in the face of catastrophic situations, such as the collection of photographs belonging to those affected by the 2024 DANA in Valencia.

The exhibition—originally initiated by the University of Valencia’s Vice-Rectorate for Culture and Society in collaboration with various cultural organisations—highlights how a private archive transforms into a shared heritage that is indispensable for social cohesion and the construction of a plural and equitable memory.
