Fifty years after the death of Francisco Franco, the Centre for the Study of Dictatorships and Democracies (CEDID-UAB) is co-organising, together with other Spanish and French universities and the Francisco Largo Caballero Foundation, the international symposium on “Radiography of Anti-Francoism in Spain and France. Parties, Unions and Social Movements (1939-1977)”. The meeting will take place in the city of Alacant, Valencia, and the city of Albi, France, on 20, 21, 26 and 27 November, and will bring together specialists to analyse the forms of political, social and cultural resistance against Francoism.

The University of Alacant is hosting the first day of the Symposium on 20 November, during which the role of the socialist family and the communists during the early Franco regime will be addressed, as well as the work of the Republican parties and the libertarian movement in both Spain and France. Manuela Aroca, Fernando Hernández, Alicia Alted and Ángel Herrerín will participate, offering their vision of the first resistances to the dictatorship.
