Conference by Nobel Laureate in Medicine Craig C. Mello: "RNAi: A molecular spark in an information inferno"
Event details
- Start: 05 Nov 2025 12:00
- Rectorat building (conference hall)
American researcher Craig Cameron Mello, awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 2006 for his discovery of RNA interference, will deliver the lecture “RNAi: A molecular spark in an information inferno.” Mello has been a researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Maryland since the year 2000.
The conference is part of the Nobel Prize Inspiration Initiative, a programme organised by the Nobel Prize Outreach, in collaboration with the AstraZeneca Foundation, to bring Nobel prize winners closer to the scientific community and, especially, to young researchers.
Professor Mello will describe the research and challenges faced before and after receiving the award, which he was awarded together with fellow American pathologist Andrew Fire. He also will describe the history of the discovery of RNA interference, a fundamental mechanism in controlling the flow of genetic information.
