Law from a humanistic perspective through the reading of Kafka.

Detail of the exhibition dedicated to Kafka

As part of the exhibition that the Social Sciences Library has held on the occasion of the centenary of the publication of The Trial, Franz Kafka's emblematic work, and coinciding with the start of the 2025-2026 academic year, we invite you to the conference "Vigencia y actualidad del pensamiento de Kafka en el Derecho Penal".

This event is an invitation to look at law from a humanistic perspective through the reading of Kafka, and to reflect on how great literary works can help us better understand the challenges of the present.

To delve deeper into the topic, we will have the presence of two leading figures in Criminal Law:

  • Gonzalo Quintero Olivares, Professor of Criminal Law at the Rovira i Virgili University, with an outstanding academic and institutional career. A writer on Criminal Law, he is the author and director of the Comentaris al Codi penal, and of a wide catalogue of books, which heads its general section on criminal law, as well as a very high number of articles and monographs.
  • Fermín Morales Prats, Professor of Criminal Law at the UAB, professor in several postgraduate programs and director of the journal Derecho y Proceso Penal. Awarded on multiple occasions for his professional work, he is the founder of Morales Abogados Penalistas and has been recognized by Best Lawyers as “Lawyer of the Year”.

The conference will be moderated by Marta Civil, journalist and colleague of the Libraries Service.

Date: Monday, September 22, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Location: lobby on floor 0 of the Social Sciences Library

We are waiting for you!
