New digitised collection: The Farreras Family and the Spanish Veterinary Journal
The Farreras Family Collection is a new addition to the personal and institutional collections of the UAB Library Service, digitized in the UAB Digital Repository (DDD).

It comprises over 400 documents covering the commercial activity of the Revista Veterinaria de España, as well as personal and professional documents from Josep Farreras i Sampera, Pere Farreras i Sampera, and Francisco Farreras i Sampera — the three family members who devoted their careers to veterinary medicine. It also includes part of the family’s private library.
The Revista Veterinaria de España (1907–1936), originally named Revista Pasteur when it was founded in 1906, became a key reference in veterinary science at the time and even received international recognition, such as the gold medal at the 1908 Spanish-French Exposition. Founded by Pere and Josep Farreras, it was further expanded in 1912 with the creation of the Library of the Revista Veterinaria de España.
Through this publishing initiative, Pere Farreras translated—primarily from German—the most important European veterinary works of the first half of the 20th century. The Farreras family's significant contribution to the advancement of health sciences in Spain is evident both in the publication of the Revista Veterinaria de España and in their remarkable translations of medical and veterinary literature.
This collection was digitized by the Veterinary Library with financial support from the Catalan Association for the History of Veterinary Medicine (ACHV), and it has been made available through the DDD to facilitate access for researchers and others interested in the history of veterinary medicine.
