On 7 October 2026, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) Master’s Degree in European Integration opened the 2026-2027 academic year with a lecture delivered by Agustí Fernández de Losada Passols, Secretary for European and Multilateral Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Government of Catalonia.

Conference on the role of sub-state governments in European integration.

The lecture, “Subnational governments in European policymaking and European integration”, addressed the role of local and regional governments in European public policy processes, their capacity to influence decision-making and the main challenges facing multilevel governance in the European Union.

Based on his extensive professional experience, Fernández de Losada offered a practical perspective grounded in the realities of European institutions, sharing specific examples and raising issues that prompted a highly enriching discussion with students. The session stood out for its dynamic, interactive and participatory nature, enabling attendees to connect academic knowledge with the real-life challenges of European policymaking.

The visit was particularly meaningful as Agustí Fernández de Losada is both a former UAB student and of this master's programme, which was previously known as the Master's Degree in European Studies. His return to the university provided an excellent opportunity to show students the several professional paths that can emerge from specialised training in European integration.

The Faculty of Law and the management team of the Master's Degree in European Integration would like to express their gratitude to Agustí Fernández de Losada for his availability, valuable contributions and engagement with students.

With this lecture, we officially launch a new academic year and welcome a new cohort of students to the Master's Degree in European Integration. We wish them a year filled with learning opportunities and experiences.
