Great Success for the UAB at the Interuniversity Trial Simulation Competition
The Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of Barcelona has had an especially outstanding participation in the Interuniversity Trial Simulation Competition, an academic contest that brings together students from the Master’s Degree in Legal Practice and Court Representation from the three public universities in Catalonia: the UAB, the University of Barcelona, and Pompeu Fabra University.
This competition consists of criminal and civil trial simulations based on real cases provided by professors from the participating universities. Students take on both main roles —defense counsel, private prosecution, and public prosecutor— as well as secondary roles, including witnesses, complainants, members of the security forces, and expert witnesses. The sessions are presided over by active judges and magistrates, allowing participants to face procedural situations that are practically identical to those found in professional legal practice. As the organizers emphasize, it is “a fiction that feels remarkably real.”
This year’s edition was especially successful for the UAB, which won three of the four main awards in the competition:
- First prize in criminal trial simulations
- First individual prize for best speaker in the criminal category
- First individual prize for best speaker in the civil category
- Second prize in civil trial simulations
Criminal Competition
In the criminal simulations, the main roles were assumed by Claudia Fleta, Oscar Navarro, Irene López, Ada Creus, and Julia Bachs.
As for the secondary roles, participants included Malena Alejo, Maria Justícia, Nadia Pintado, Laura Cano, Alba Gallardo, Pau Fortes, Andrea Bielsa, Paula Fuentes, and Alba Ibáñez.
Special mention should be made of Claudia Fleta, who won the first individual prize for public speaking in the criminal simulations and represented the UAB in the criminal final.
Civil Competition
In the civil category, the UAB also achieved excellent results. Ana Patricia Bolivar Rastrelli was recognized with the award for best speaker in the civil simulations.
The main roles were performed by Lia Ángela Alvarado Sánchez, Iván López Hernández, Marcelo Esteban González Hernández, Álex Peralta Martínez, Miquel Carreras Colomer, and Ana Patricia Bolivar Rastrelli.
The secondary roles were carried out by Paula Benabarre García, María Victoria Merino Villar, Alba Moyano Castro, Kaoutar El Bina Labaini, Arielle Fernández Muñiz, Júlia Zilian Pallarés Mercader, Nerea Roldán Ramos, Jordà Vallés Cillero, Teresa Rodríguez Rasero, Santiago Castelló Mustienes, Bruno de Haro Rioja, Pol Rigo Ferrer, Carla Sánchez Serena, and Paula Torres Salazar.
The Interuniversity Competition has become one of the most relevant educational activities of the Master’s Degree in Legal Practice and Court Representation, as it offers students an immersive and highly practical experience, testing their legal, procedural, and communication skills in an environment very close to the real practice of the profession.
