TED Talk | "Witnessing Violence: Protecting Victims & Aid Professionals"

The Faculty of Law at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona organises a TED Talk-format conference as part of the academic activities of the course "Crimes against Humanity and Human Rights".

The session will be delivered by Arancha Garcia del Soto, Global Human Rights Advocate, a specialist with over 30 years of experience working with victims of international crimes. Her career spans some of the most significant humanitarian crises of recent decades, beginning with the wars in the former Yugoslavia, and has taken her to conflict zones and crisis settings across the world.

Throughout her career, Garcia del Soto has worked not only directly with victims, but also with the professionals and organisations tasked with supporting them — addressing critical challenges such as the prevention of secondary or double victimisation, and the personal and psychological toll of working with traumatic testimony on a daily basis. Her perspective bridges the legal, humanitarian, and human dimensions of international crimes in a way that is both rigorous and deeply grounded in lived experience.

The talk will explore these themes through the lens of international humanitarian law and victim protection, offering students and attendees a unique insight into the realities faced by both survivors and the professionals who accompany them.

Although the event is integrated into the course curriculum, it is open to all members of the UAB community. Attendance is free.
