On March 10, 2026, the Sala de Vistes of the Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of Barcelona will host the conference “Constitutionalism, populism and judicial power: case study”, organized in tribute to Professor José Tudela Aranda.

The conference will address the impact of populism on the judiciary and its implications for the rule of law, combining comparative analysis and academic debate.

Highlighted program:

  • 10.00 – 10.15 h: Presentation of the day, by Dr. Joan Lluís Pérez Francesch (UAB).
  • 10.15 – 11.00 h: Populism and the judiciary in Latin America: outstanding cases, presentation by Dr. Roberto Viciano (University of Valencia).
  • 11.00 – 11.45 h: Debate: The threats of populism to the judiciary, with the participation of the University of C.diz and the University of Barcelona.
  • 11.45 – 12.30 h: Tribute to Professor José Tudela Aranda: A constitutionalist in defense of the rule of law, by Dr. Alfredo Ramírez Nárdiz  (UAB).
