Workshop on Miniscopes at Institut de Neurociències

The AnderoLab is hosting an advanced workshop on in vivo calcium imaging using Miniscopes from June 10th to 12th, 2025. This intensive three-day course will equip participants with essential skills for studying neuronal activity in freely moving rodents.

Positive Initial Results for Gene Therapy Targeting SPG52, Affecting Three Children in Spain

The research team investigating gene therapy for treating Spastic Paraplegia Type 52 (SPG52) has successfully completed the first preclinical trials. These trials were conducted on neurons derived from stem cells of Abril Merino, an eight-year-old girl with the condition, and on mice. The research has been made possible thanks to the UAB's ongoing crowdfunding campaign, with significant support from the association La Lucha de Abril.

Cerebral stroke in animal models with hypertension found to affect arteries in other body regions

A study coordinated by Dr Francesc Jiménez-Altayó, researcher at Institute and CIBERCV, shows that temporary lack of blood flow to the brain can lead to lasting changes in the small arteries of the abdomen in rats with high blood pressure. The research also explored the effects of a drug called SAHA in mitigating these changes, finding that it prevented some early alterations in the arteries and reduced long-term brain damage
